The “Outlander” season two premiere is finally upon us, and we couldn’t be more excited to see what’s in store for our favorite characters Claire and Jamie.

By now fans are well aware that the Scottish couple are headed for Paris when the Starz show returns with season two.

Fashion & Style recently had the pleasure of chatting with the show’s leading stars, Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan, at the Saks Fifth Avenue & Starz “Outlander” window display, and they both hinted at some interesting changes headed in both of their characters direction when the show premieres.

Check out our exclusive interview with Caitriona and Sam below:

How will the Claire we meet in Paris be different from Claire we got to know in Scotland?
Caitriona Balfe:
Well it’s the same woman, but circumstances have obviously affected her. The end of season one has a really drastic affect not only on Jamie but on their relationship and on Claire as well. And now she’s pregnant, and that has a drastic shift in who she is as a woman too. So I think this season you’ll see a much deeper, more in depth view of Claire’s emotional life and who she is as a woman.

Jamie seems to adapt well to the politics of Paris, even though he doesn’t like it. Will he discover ambitions or talents on this new mission?
Sam Heughan:
We discover a lot about Jamie actually in Paris I guess. We discover that he’s quite good at numbers and business. He can play chess pretty well. We see another side to him. I think that’s what’s great about the show. We get to develop these in a different direction, and it really will begin to build towards mid-season. I think the relationship between these two characters is the most important part of the show, and it really is tested in a lot of ways.

You’ll both switch from Scottish attire to a Parisian wardrobe. What was your first impression of the costume change for season two?
Caitriona:
I think it was just a wonderful thing for both of us to watch Terry’s whole process. She sneaked in a few fittings in season one, but everything was done in plain tulle. So you got somewhat of an idea of the shapes but not of the vibrancy of the colors and the beauty and just extravagance of it. So in a way you’re like, ‘Oh, I don’t know how my character’s gonna feel in this.’ But it was a nice way to allow Claire to explore a different side of her femininity, but it also mirrored to the constraints that she was feeling in the Parisian court where women are supposed to be ornamental and pretty objects. So obviously Claire does not feel that comfortable with that idea.

Sam: Terry always approaches the costumes through character. It’s not just wearing pretty clothes. It’s definitely a reflection of the character and the fact that they are in Paris trying to play different characters and be someone else is reflected in the costume.

How difficult was it to get dressed in those tight corsets and heavy skirts?
Caitriona:
It’s around the same length of time that a lot of the Scottish outfits take. I have a fantastic costume woman Marni. We take about 20 minutes I suppose. We hang out, we chat. She squeezes me into the dresses

Sam: It doesn’t look comfortable. There’s so many different layers. You’ve got the bumrolls and the corsets. Women didn’t have a good time in those clothes.

Caitriona: It’s a lot.

What about you in your costumes Sam?
Sam:
Lots of corsets. Lots of bumrolls. Lots of structuring. [Laughs] It’s fun to play with different outfits, a different look. I think he looks the part. He’s playing a Laird in the French court. He needs to impress the people that he’s trying to get in with in this political world of social elite.

Are you excited to see what happens to Claire and Jamie when they arrive in Paris on “Outlander” season two? Tell us by voting in the poll below.

Don’t miss the season two premiere of “Outlander” on Saturday, April 9, at p p.m. on Starz.
