People can't help but draw comparisons between ABC's "Once Upon A Time" and "Lost," especially since the former's showrunners Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz also worked on the latter.

There are several thematic parallels between the two, and they even share similar cast members: Lana Parrilla, Emilie de Ravin, Elizabeth Mitchell, Rebecca Mader, Alan Dale, Jorge Garcia and more.

Before "Lost" wrapped up its third season finale, ABC already announced that the series would end after season 6. This announcement allowed executive producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse to set an end date for their show. Now, people are wondering if "Once Upon A Time" will do the same thing.

"It's a different thing than 'Lost,'" Horowitz told Entertainment Weekly. "There are some similarities in our storytelling - that's where we came from - but 'Lost' was a much more closed-ended show that needed that kind of ending."

But Horowitz did say that he and Kitsis already developed an idea on how they would end their show, although nothing has been set in stone.

"We certainly have endpoints in mind for many of our characters and where we want the story to go and finish up, but we have different ways of getting there," he continued. "We're not, at this point, setting a specific end date for the show. But what we are doing is taking the luxury of knowing we have another season to be able to continue our long-term planning."

Meanwhile, Kitsis assured fans that season 6 will not be the last for "Once Upon A Time."

"We could change our minds in a few months, but right now we're just trying to get out of [season] 5," he said. "We have plans for season 6. Listen, there's a time and a place where, at a certain point, characters either need to find their happiness or not, and we are aware of that. We're just not ready to answer that question yet."

Kitsis earlier said that their show is all about hope so even though things might get really crazy for their lead characters, they always have to keep in mind that "happy endings have to be earned."

"Once Upon a Time" airs every Sunday at 8 p.m. on ABC.
