‘Marvel’s Iron Fist’: Netflix Casts ‘Lord Of The Rings’ Star David Wenham As Villain

Netflix recently announced that "Lord of the Rings" star David Wenham landed the role of a villain named Harold Meachum in their upcoming series "Iron Fist."
Deadline noted that Netflix's upcoming series "Iron Fist" is going to revolve around a young man named Danny Rand, who returns to New York after being missing for years. He then starts fighting against the criminals who live in the Big Apple using his martial arts skills and the ability to summon the power of the fiery Iron Fist.
Previously, the streaming company announced that "Game of Thrones" alumni Finn Jones and Jessica Henwick had nabbed the roles of Danny Rand and his friend Colleen Wing.
Vulture reported that Netflix recently revealed Australian actor David Wenham was going to play a villain named Harold Meachum.
Wenham has previously played heroes in "Lord of The Rings" and "300," so it will be interesting to see him play a villain.
"Iron Fist" executive producer Scott Buck told Coming Soon that Wenham's character is going to be complex and will keep viewers guessing about his motives until the end of the first season.
"I'm very excited to have David as our Harold," he said. "David is capable of displaying raw, visceral strength as well as extremely keen intelligence. This will add up to a character of complex depth who will keep us off balance all season."
Jeph Loeb, the Head of Marvel Television, also hinted that there could be a scene where Harold clashes with Danny.
"David brings both a vulnerability and a danger to his many diverse roles," he explained. "This key quality creates a gravitas our series requires as Danny unravels the secrets behind Rand Enterprises."
Coming Soon added that in the original comics, Harold is a ruthless corporate leader who was responsible for the death of Danny's father and there is a good chance "Iron Fist" will include that storyline in the first season.
