The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge began their weeklong tour of India and Bhutan today, Sunday, April 10, their first royal tour in two years.
The couple paid their respects at one of the sites of the 2008 Mumbai terrorist attacks by laying a wreath at a memorial at Mumbai's iconic Taj Mahal Palace hotel, where 31 people were killed.
Crowds of onlookers gathered to catch a glimpse of the couple as they got out of their car and entered the hotel, where employees welcomed them with garlands of roses.
According to ABC.com, in the visitor's book at the hotel, the couple wrote: "In memory of those who lost their lives and those injured in the senseless atrocities at the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel."

Catherine went with a favorite designer for the solemn occasion, a red patterned silk suit from Alexander McQueen. Whatkatewore.com pointed out that the peplum top has three-quarter sleeves, gathering at the neckline, and a placed print; the skirt has an inverted front pleat. The pattern is known as as 'ambi' or 'kalka' in India.
The Duchess accessorized with a new handbag, the Curvy Clutch from Russell and Bromley, LK Bennett's 'Fern' shoe and her Cassandra Goad Temple of Heaven earrings.

They also took part in a football match during a visit to the Banganga Water tank, where they met representatives of SMILE. The Duchess wore a pink and green patterned dress by local designer, Anita Dongre with wedges from Monsoon.
