'Jane The Virgin' Season 2 Star Gina Rodriguez Talks About Hollywood's Standards For Beauty

Gina Rodriguez, who plays the title character in the CW series "Jane the Virgin," believes that beauty is subjective, and a person's physical appearance should not stop people from delving "deeper into the soul and their character."
"I believe true beauty begins on the inside," she told Latina. "When it comes to Hollywood, people will say, 'Oh girl you got to be skinnier,' or 'you have to look like this,' but that doesn't show you what I can do and the capabilities that I have. I can tell any story, that's the reason why I'm an actress. I'm not an actress because of my looks. That is not me."
Rodriguez said that she refuses to deconstruct and tear herself down just to suit Hollywood's standards. The actress added that Hollywood's demands for beauty is "a constant battle" that will not be won anytime soon, but she plans on doing so in the future.
"I'm planning on not falling into something that's going to tear down my heart and my soul. I'm going to work off my heart and my soul and that's going to be the beauty I'm looking for," she said.
Meanwhile, Rodriguez admitted that she is pretty attached to her hair, and this is why it will be difficult for her to cut it all off for a different role she will start filming this summer.
"I'm gonna look different in a month," Rodriguez told PeopleStyle. "I'm cutting all my hair off and dyeing it - cutting as in a Ruby Rose cut. This is gonna be my first transition in not rocking long hair."
There was a time when Rodriguez dyed her hair blonde for a role, but she hasn't done anything more drastic than that.
"I get compliments [on my hair] all the time, and that's what actually really scares me about cutting my hair," she said. "[But] I'll live."
