In "Arrow" season four, episode 18, a beloved character was killed off at the end of "Eleven Fifty-Nine."
**WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD**
Many fans of "Arrow" were devastated when they learned that Dinah Laurel Lance (Black Canary) was in the grave and even created a Twitter hashtag called #NoLaurelNoArrow to voice their displeasure at such an iconic character being so cruelly killed off.
If you're a fan of Laurel Lance, then check out our list of the three reasons why we're mad that she is the character that was killed off in "Arrow" season four.
3. Black Canary Is An Iconic Character
Comic Vine pointed out that Laurel Lance (Black Canary) is an iconic character in the DC universe.
In the original comics, Laurel is a metahuman who can emit a sonic scream and is a master martial artist.
She is also often portrayed as Oliver Queen's love interest. Even though Laurel had a slightly different origin story in "Arrow," it is still a shame that the executive producers chose to kill off such a beloved character for shock value.
2. The Storyline Is Cliché
Previously, Laurel's father Quentin Lance had to struggle to overcome the grief after her sister Sara died in the "Arrow" season three premiere.
Re-using the same clichéd storyline in "Arrow" season four shows that the executive producers may have a lack of imagination.
It would have been more interesting if Quentin was killed for betraying Damien Darhk and Laurel went off with Nyssa al Ghul to train to become a better fighter.
1. Katie Cassidy Did Not Get Much Screentime
Even though Cassidy is "Arrow's" leading lady, she did not get much screentime in seasons three and four.
This is a terrible shame. Cassidy is a compelling actress, and Laurel is a fascinating character. Instead of killing off the Black Canary, it would have been interesting to watch her fight a nemesis of her own or bond with Felicity over the fact that they could become step-sisters in the future.
"Arrow" season four is currently airing on Wednesday nights at 8 p.m. ET on the CW.
