‘Girl Meets World’ Rumors: Huge Plot Twist, More Mature Topics In Season 3 For Riley, Maya

"Girl Meets World" fans should expect huge plot twists for season three of the Disney Channel show as the series attempts to tackle mature subjects during their family-oriented programming.
The show, which will debut in the spring of 2016, will further delve into the love triangle of Riley (Rowan Blanchard), Lucas (Peyton Meyer), and Maya (Sabrina Carpenter).
At the end of season two, fans were left with a cliffhanger where Lucas hadn't decided which of the friends he was in love with.
The latest revelations from creator Michael Jacobs via The Wrap hinted that there will be huge plot twists taking place in the life of Maya, Riley and their friends as they enter the world of high school in season three.
"The love triangle of Riley, Lucas and Maya will span probably a third to a half of season three. Not as the primary focus, but always as an underlying thing in existence for the characters," Jacobs said.
"Then when we bring it up to primary, we will resolve it in a way that shows an answer to a much bigger question, which is, how do young people at this age perceive relationships? What is the value of them? And what are our friendships, really?" he further elaborated of the plot twist for the three friends,
Rumor has it that "Girl Meets World" will also put the focus on more mature and heavier subjects for the Disney Channel series, resulting big plot shifts for the main characters.
Although the subjects would likely be handled in a family-friendly way for the channel, the topics would stretch the scope of viewers of the show to thinking about their core characters in different ways.
"As long as this show runs on Disney Channel, we want to honor the people who invited us to play at their house," explained Jacobs.
"They've been very good to us, and they have let us push the envelope about as much as they have. We will tackle heavier subjects, and we will explore them, but we will also honor the fact that our demographic starts at 6 years old," he said of the challenges of presenting more mature storylines to the show's audience.
The showrunner respectfully plans on honoring the show's audience, but won't shy away from the tough subjects.
"What we will do is honestly show you within the parameters of what I think and what the staff thinks is correct. Lovely episodes, which will touch on all the same subjects that 'Boy Meets World' did," Jacobs said.
"Girl Meets World" season three is currently in production and will air sometime this spring on Disney Channel.
